How VOCA came about
-
As a mother
What do you do when the usual way of learning doesn't work for your child?
I experienced exactly this first-hand. You search for support, try different approaches and eventually start finding your own ways: simplifying things, making them visible, connecting them and creating your own materials so that learning makes more sense.
-
As a grandmother
Today, as a grandmother to children on the autism spectrum, some with limited or no spoken language, that question has returned in a new way. Inspired by my autistic grandson, I have experienced that communication goes far beyond spoken words. He is the reason VOCA exists.
How can we help a child learn, understand and communicate when words alone are not enough?
-
Today
VOCA brings these experiences together by creating playful ways to see, hear, point, move, match, repeat, play and communicate. Because children learn differently, and sometimes we simply need to find a different way to reach them.
My approach is co-creative: VOCA is developed in exchange with professionals, parents and the children themselves. The starting point is not what a child cannot do, but what interests them, how they communicate and what they need in order to belong.

Claudia Doron
Founder & Developer of VOCA™
Empowerment is the common thread running through her work. For over 30 years, Claudia Doron has supported people in finding their footing, unlocking their strengths, and taking their place in society – as a coach, Relocation Consultant and founder of an NGO for education and equal opportunity.
Inspired by her five-year-old grandson with autism and his passion for ocean friends, VOCA™ was born: playful pathways to communication, learning, and inclusion.
Because belonging begins with being able to express yourself and be understood.
More about Claudia Doron
Claudia Doron is a certified coach, adult educator and lecturer, and has been a self-employed Relocation Consultant since 2006. For more than 30 years, she has supported people through processes of change, learning, and integration – across cultural, linguistic, and personal boundaries.
She has taught international students and future HR professionals, provided German language classes for refugees, and served as a member of a Swiss school board. As a Relocation Consultant, she supports individuals and families as they settle into a new country and helps companies successfully integrate international employees.
In 2010, she founded River of Hope and initiated the development of a school in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which today provides education for children and young people from Grade 1 through Grade 12. The education centre is also home to Africa’s first Peace Pitch – a football pitch for peace, developed in collaboration with the Children’s Football Alliance, using sport as a powerful way to foster community, connection, and peaceful coexistence.
As diverse as these different areas of work may seem, they are connected by one central question: How can we meet people in ways that help them feel understood, included, and empowered to develop their own potential?
Inspired by her autistic grandson, Claudia Doron is now bringing this perspective into the early years through VOCA™. VOCA™ grew from the idea of giving children different ways to discover, communicate, learn, and participate – starting with the child and their individual abilities.
She is currently deepening her knowledge through further training to become a Certified Autism Coach.
Understanding people. Enabling participation. Supporting development. From education to relocation to international development, sport, and VOCA™ – this idea has been the common thread throughout her work.
